New Release - The Cursed King (Inferno Rising #4) by Abigail Owen - Review

The Cursed King
by

He will burn. She will rise.

Airk Azdajah, the rightful King of the White Clan, spent half a millennium being tortured by the false High King Pytheios. The only reason he’s alive is a curse— the man to kill Airk will be consumed in his own fire. Which is why Pytheios kept Airk alive, barely, unable to shift in his prison cage, driving the creature half of him into madness. Airk escaped, but he’ll never be truly free. What good is a king who can never let his feral dragon loose, never fly, and never lead his people? He’s better off dead.

Angelika Amon is the last unmated phoenix. The problem? She has no powers. Zip. Zilch. Angelika hates being dormant, especially now that her three sisters are blissfully mated to powerful dragon shifter kings and are very much part of the fight to take down the rotting king Pytheios, their parents’ killer. What good is a useless runt of a phoenix in a battle to save the dragon kingdom?

Desperate to find some way to help, she offers herself to Airk as a mate — just for political leverage. But a dormant phoenix is no damn use to him just like a dragon who can’t shift is no use to her. Until Pytheios sets his sights on Angelika for himself…

My Review

The last of the Inferno Rising series and it's a hot read in lots of ways! This book features Angelika the last unmated phoenix and Airk a white dragon shifter that cant shift. I have to admit I called Airk Eric in my head!

The fight is reaching a head and everyone is in danger and all the mated phoenix and dragons are coming together to fight the baddie. Angelika decides she and Airk should Mate to help the battle.

Airk is very standoffish to begin with. Angelika isn't giving in she can see how good they could be together. The battle we know is coming and we can almost guarantee Angelika will get her wish with Airk BUT oh my we have to wait a while - Airks defenses need some breaking down.

Along with the fighting and some unexpected occurrences we get to hear from the previous main characters.

The epilogue was wonderful and completed the series perfectly.

Review - Bound by the Moon (The Bound Series #2) by J.F. Holland

Blurb

Bound by The Moon, part of 'The Bound Series'. (Shifter Romance Serial, not a standalone, the story carries on throughout the series so needs to be read in order).

Jaden Matthews has now found, and fallen, for Maya Rawlings, his mate. They need to perform the binding ceremony, but their plans are hitting a few snags. Namely the rogues', which are stalking Maya.

If they don't complete the ceremony, Jaden will become the Jaguar he shifts into, for the rest of the animal's lifespan. No more immortality, or humanity, and no more Maya, and forever.

Helena, Maya's mother, is back from the dead, and her cousin Lana, is also on the rogues' radar. The stakes have just gotten higher, it's no longer just Maya's life that is in danger. The battle has begun to keep Maya, and her family safe.

More immortals have offered their help to eliminate the threat. The rogues' actions and indiscriminate kills are also threatening discovery by humans.

The game of cat-and-mouse has begun. Who will be the victor?

Contains erotic scenes, profanity, and gore

MY REVIEW

*Romance, matings, danger and a sprinkling of humorous banter make this a good read.*

Book 2 in The Bound Series starts where book 1 finished off. In my opinion you need to read in order to get to know the characthers and story.

Jaden and Maya are an entertaining couple, their connection and love for one another have grown very quickly and you can feel it. Spoiler alert.... They finally bind together in this book, it is not as perfect as they would have planned though....
With Maya wrapped so tightly around him, he'd never been so uncomfortable in his life. Her heels were dug into his arse, and her dress was bunched up between them. Add in the fact that the zipper of his jeans was digging into his groin, and that she'd probably have a belt buckle mark on her stomach, he was having a fucking ball.
The pair of them are very early in their relationship, but there is love and lots of passion, they both need to learn about censoring the things they say at times.

"Welcome to cat sex baby. Didn't you know cats can go for hours, with very little downtime," he informed her. "In the wild, one cat will service many females," Jaden informed her, and Maya hissed. "Not in the human world they don't, not unless they want to lose certain appendages," she informed him.

Along with Maya and Jaden, there are lots of fabulous new characthers bought into the story, I love the variety of paranormals, the vamp and the gargoyle have definitely taken my interest.

There is a despicable man, Maya's dad
"I did enjoy the show earlier; pity you didn't undress her though. Quite naughty of you to spoil our fun," he said again. - maya's dad to Jaden

He and his cronies are horrid and a danger to everyone in the town, luckily there is a big band of goodies ready to defend their community and the humans too.

The story is romance based and mates finding one another but the danger lurking in the background keeps them all busy.
"When did the town turn into an episode of Midsummer Murders?" Balin asked grimly.
Lana and Balin'ss story is going to be fun. On to book 3.

Captured Heat (Phoenix Warriors #1)

The Phoenix Warriors, a group of immortals bound by the gods to protect the integrity of the human realm from otherworldly races, have been led for centuries by Cole, a guarded alpha male.

When Cole learns that an ancient demon has discovered the location of a tool that will enable him to escape from the prison realm, Cole vows to find and safeguard it before the demon's vampire minions.

Rebecca Powell is a high school guidance counselor who is everyone's "lucky charm." She's just not so lucky herself. After being used a time too many, she's through with men...until she runs right into the one she can't resist.

Cole and Rebecca have both been burned before, but can they put aside their misgivings to protect the human realm and learn to love again?

My review

**Karida's Phoenix men literally sizzle on every page**

Are you looking for a new series of warriors, maybe something different? You won't go wrong with this series about Phoenix's.

I love PNR it's my favourite genre so getting to start a new series about men that turn into Phoenix's is a pleasure. The warriors all have their own personality, which will make for an interesting series. When you mix in a strong leading lady you can't go wrong.

Rebecca is a guidance counsellor, that helps people more than she realises, she has recently come out of a bad relationship. Now, all of a sudden there's a hunky man hanging around. As soon as she's in danger Cole can't leave her alone, then again does she want him too! Their journey is full of adventure, mixed in with sensual and sexy scenes.

The authors writing flows and the story and characthers will grab you.

A great read full of hunky hot men and strong women, can't wait to read book 2.

Five super sizzling stars.

Can they restore the portal before the realm is overrun by evil? Or will their feelings compromise the safety of all humanity?

My review

**Hot warriors, magical women, and a sizzling story**

Book 2 of Karida Clarkes Phoenix Guardians and they're as hot as ever!

This is Samuels book and his love interest Hadia, there's Lots of action and the story keeps you on your toes.

I really grew fond of the Desert witch and her playful ways in this book. Her apprentice you will remember from book 1 is Hadia and she's a witch.

Samuel, well he was great and loved him all through, I liked Hadia, I can't say I loved her, don't know why - she was strong and once her sexy side came out......

This book was a Separate story as such, but there is an undercurrent story continuing from book 1 so would suggest you go meet Cole and Rebecca first.

I'm hoping the next book is Rykers!

4.5 sizzling stars

My Review

A strong start to a new series.

This is a whole new world to me, Phoenix are completely reimagined. There's also a hierarchy, not all people that rule are good though.

Aurelia and Rhys are great main characthers and I really enjoyed them ironing out there problems in between the battles going on around them.

Evan makes a fun but deadly sidekick to Aurelia.

This is a first in series so there's lots of background/history bought into book which all help you to be pulled in into this new and interesting paranormal world.

I look forward to reading more in the series.

Four Phoenix stars

- EXCERPT -
I groan as I open the car door and pull my body to standing. I rub my eyes, so happy I ditched the contacts and shake out my legs before going to the trunk to pull out my go-bag. Every vehicle I own (even the boat and four-wheelers) has a small duffel bag stashed somewhere in them. They contain cash, clothes, one day of rations (beef jerky and a flask of Jameson, don’t give me too much credit), and a new identity.

The identity I probably won’t need just yet, but I do need the set of clothes. My suit jacket was lost to some poor male patron with a gut shot, and my pants and shirt are ruined by some lady’s blood and the remnants of what I did to Thad during his interrogation. I feel guilty for not using the Morganite knife and killing him for real since I know he’ll heal in the next couple of days. My only solace is that it will take a few days to regrow his whole fucking head.

Dick.

I knew I shouldn’t have gone to my stupid exhibit. I swear it’s the last time I let Evan talk me into anything.

I mean it this time.

Rhys has been quiet most of the drive, and it’s a blessing because I have no idea what to say to him. But it’s a curse as well due to the barbed guilt running through my veins. I’ve spent little time with him that hasn’t included me trying to rip him limb from limb, so a conversation might be impossible. I’m also a little disturbed having him so close hasn’t been the hardship I thought it would be. He’s been quiet, considerate, and he pumped the gas when we stopped because me getting out of the car would have caused a stir.

We both get out of the car and walk to the trunk, which I’ve popped with the key fob.

“You want me to carry that?” he asks, chivalrously reaching past me to lift my duffel out of the trunk. The bastard. I really wish he’d cooperate and be an asshole so I could hate him appropriately. I grind my teeth together in an attempt to avoid screaming and give a jerky nod, letting him take the bag. It takes some effort, but I gently close my trunk, careful not to hurt my baby even though I want to smash something.

I stride towards the front door behind Rhys, vigilantly trying not to stomp my feet and pout like a Goddamn toddler. My anger only grows when I notice how fucking spectacular he looks in a suit. Holy shit balls. He’s easily six foot three, maybe taller. I’m five-three on a good day, so he’s at least an entire foot taller than me. The crisp dark charcoal gray suit emphasizes the wideness of his shoulders and the line of his body as it flows from his strong neck to his lean waist and tight ass. People I hate are not supposed to be this fucking hot in a suit.
