Review - Shifted Illusions (Alpha Division Book 5) by C.E. Black

Shifted Illusions (Alpha Division Book 5)
by

Can three hearts beat as one?

The recent attack on the Alpha Division left Leo a broken shell of the man he once was. Gone are the dimpled smiles and his signature smirk. All that remains is a twisted, scarred mess. If anyone could love such a beast, it would be Hawk. But his best friend still dreams of the "woman who got away." A woman who stars alongside Hawk in Leo's own fantasies. Fantasies too perfect to ever become reality.

Having escaped a life of torment, Beth is finally free. Free to pine for her ex who would never love a half-breed like her and his best friend, a man desperately in need of her love. But when her past rears its ugly head, she must place her life in the hands of the two men she wants most. Now if only she can protect her heart from being torn between them.

Hawk has always harbored a fierce desire for Leo, but he couldn't risk losing his best friend. So, when Beth comes barreling back into his life, he thinks he's been given a second chance. If only he and Beth weren’t in love with the same man... but maybe together, they can heal him.

*This book is a M/M/F menage, bisexual romance and includes explicit scenes and adult language.

MY REVIEW

Leo, a lion shifter and Henri the Hawk, is it getting hot in here or is it me?

It seems like forever since I visited the Alpha Division, so I was delighted to be reunited with the gang.

Leo has lost confidence since being injured, his living with Hawk. He gets a surprise when a lady asks him to meet for coffee - enter Beth.

Beth is on the run from her abusive pack. She is a resilient woman and has found a way through, but is always watching her back.

I loved being back in this world, I enjoyed the story and the characters and how they were attracted to each other. If I haven't mentioned before they're hot together that first full-on threesome session was a scorcher!

I hope there is some more in this series.

New Release and Review - Makeshift Mate (Bad Alpha Dads, Meet Your Alpha) Alpha Singles Series

Makeshift Mate (Bad Alpha Dads, Meet Your Alpha)
Alpha Singles Series
“This single father gig isn't so hard. Not hard at all. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, really. It's been a breeze! Or so I thought.”
When Alpha Locke Winfield’s pack decided it was time for him to step up and take care of his own child for once, his whole life turned upside down. Too busy for tea parties and ballet recitals, he hadn’t realized his daughter, Sara, was no longer a little girl. And preteens, he was learning, were a whole other breed.
Locke needed a woman. One who could do more than take care of his daughter. He couldn’t remember the last time a woman had taken care of him. Which was why he joined the online dating site, Alpha Singles.
Sara needed a mother. And Locke needed a mate. ASAP.
There were thousands of women out there. Surely he could find one who was willing to take on a workaholic Alpha Wolf and his moody preteen daughter.

Review
This story is about Locke, the Alpha of a wolf pack, and Isa the human business woman

Locke is a little moody, his a busy man with a daughter and a pack to run. When the pack do an intervention on him for being a 'bad dad' his forced to do something drastic - join an online dating site.

Isa is very successful in her business and works hard, she would like some love in her life and joined the site Alpha Singles.

Locke and Isa are a match by the computer but could they be in real-life?

I thought Locke came across a bit draconian to begin with, looking for a woman to care for his daughter, cook and clean. Isa isn't impressed by his ideas either, but when he meets Isa things change for him.

The story is an enjoyable easy read.  The characthers are engaging and the storyline keeps you turning pages. I will be adding next book onto my TBR list.

Scroll down to find details of the prequel to this series.

New Release and Review - Starved (Jane Thornton #2) by C.E. Black

Blurb

Jane's story continues in this sexy and thrilling second book in the Jane Thornton Trilogy... STARVED!

After weeks without any sign of Kaden, Jane and Annabelle fall into a routine. They have a roof over their heads in a home that is secluded and well-protected from flesh eaters, and hunting for supplies has been easy enough. By all accounts, they are safe. Until Jane realizes they aren't as isolated as she wanted to believe.

Warning: This is book two in a ménage trilogy and may end in a cliffhanger. This book contains strong sexual content, violence, and adult language. Not suitable for readers under the age of 18.

MY REVIEW

This book starts a short while after book 1 finished, Jane is with Anna at the stronghold....

How to review this without spoilers........ is difficult, but here goes!

Jane and Anna have developed a firm friendship, they both work hard keeping the place secure and scouting for supplies, trying to avoid the flesh eaters. The flesh eaters creep me out, but the book isn't full of them they are part of the story, but a lot is the relationship development of the characthers.

Talking characthers we get to meet other survivors in this part, I liked Aiden, not so sure about the other lot - they seemed too perfect for me.

Jane is feisty, she may not be able to speak but she knows how to get her point across - she gets to show how pissed she is, that is until she melts into a man's arms, it gets deliciously steamy on more than a few occasions.

With Jane not speaking, it took me a few pages to get into that flow again, but once I started I wasn't stopping until I finished and that was 1 am. Was I happy with ending of book 2? Well, I want book 3 now!

Here's book 1 - Hunger its only 99p

"'Have you seen the girl?'

I was the only girl here. The only living soul in this whole damn town. It had been almost a year since the beginning of the end, and I'd been here the entire time. It was my hometown, where I'd grown up. And where I thought I would die. Eventually. But I wasn't ready. Not yet."

A year ago, Jane Thornton watched quietly as the world fell apart. Like a thief in the night, something took over humanity, leaving behind only the dead and the flesh eaters. Or so she thought.

Being born mute was a weakness in the old world. Now she used it to her advantage. If there was one thing she was good at, it was hiding. Until they found her.

Kaden and Mason were two of the biggest, most threatening men she'd ever seen. And she was now their captive. But if they were holding her against her will, where were her chains? Why were they so concerned about her safety and her empty stomach? And how could her heart survive if she ran now?

Warning: This is book one in a ménage trilogy and may end in a cliffhanger. This book contains strong sexual content, violence, and adult language. Not suitable for readers under the age of 18.

Her Panther for Hire (Howls Romance) by C.E. Black #review #pnr

Her Panther for Hire (Howls Romance)

When Lainey Nickels hires a shifter mercenary to take on the job of rescuing her abducted brother Shane, she has no idea what she will encounter. It definitely isn't the enigmatic Gideon Hunt. He certainly looks like he could take on a jungle full of kidnappers singlehandedly. But Shane is her brother; her responsibility. Lainey isn't going to leave his fate in just anyone's hands. And she brought her passport to prove it.

Gideon Hunt would rather work alone and he makes damn sure to remind Lainey of this fact every chance he gets. But his predatory stares and gruff demands don't scare off Lainey. She's annoyingly independent, but her bravery draws him in.  She accepts the man behind the brusque exterior and knows exactly who and what he is. To Lainey, he is one of the good guys. But Gideon knows better.
Stress and a need for comfort bring the two together in an explosion of passion, reawakening desires both had long forgotten. Neither expected their hearts to get involved.

MY REVIEW
Love a shifter story.

Lainey knows all about shifters after walking in on her ex in another form. When she needs help finding her brother she has to do the worst thing ever, contact her ex!

Gideon is also a shifter - a panther, his a little moody, but then again when accepting a job he didn't expect a woman to tag along! Gideon and Lainey go on a journey together, and when in a jungle what else is there to do but get a little physical.

I enjoyed this story, Lainey tagging along wasn't the most sensible thing for her to do, I would have gone to the country and stayed in a hotel and waited for news! Lainey wasn't completely useless on the journey which is a good thing and Gideon liked her determination in the end.

A good quick read.

Kassandra Darkmorré is hiding behind the mask of humanity, living her life as nothing more than a spectator. She watches, knowing the outcome of the lives around her.

They lived.

They died.

While she was left all alone.

She never imagined one of her hospice patients would figure out what she was or ask for an explanation on her death bed. And Kassandra surely didn’t expect the dying woman to give her something she hadn’t had in almost two hundred years. Hope.“What you desire most is achievable. You must accept the invitation when it’s presented.”While on the search for her true desire, she finds the man of her one and only dream, Cyrus Good. The attraction between them is instantaneous, but Kassandra can’t help but feel like something is missing. And that maybe he has secrets as  sinister as Salem itself.

And what about Xavier Drago? The mysterious man keeps popping up when she least expects him to. As annoying and demanding as he is, though, she can’t help but be drawn to him just as intensely.

It all began with an invitation, but will it end with a happily ever after?

Excerpt from Behind The Mask by C.E. Black

Kassandra

I put on my coat, buttoning it up to my chin, and threw a scarf around my neck for good measure. Though the fall night had turned brisk, and the people entering the hospital from outside all wore matching red noses, I didn’t need the coat. But I liked the feeling of being one of them.
Seeing my little friend from earlier that evening waiting on me, I crouched down to get closer and held out my hand. “Hi again, little guy,” I said softly.
He purred as he bumped his onyx-colored head against my hand. Smiling, I rubbed my palm over his soft back. He didn’t have a collar, and though he looked fairly clean I could see his ribs showing, he was so thin. “Are you hungry, boy?” He wrapped around my leg in answer, and I laughed as I scooped him up in my arms. “Then let’s get you something to eat.” I was starving, but my hunger could wait. This guy probably hadn’t seen a decent meal in weeks.
After a stop at the grocery store for all the essentials he might need, I rushed home to my condo. Though in a hurry, I still took the time to fill a bowl with cat food and another with water. While he chowed down, I set up the litter box, and by the time I’d finished I couldn’t ignore the ache any longer.
I pulled the blood bag from my purse, put it in the microwave, then pressed the quick thrity-second button before grabbing a glass out of the cabinet. Warm blood was much more satisfying. Before the microwave dinged, I pulled out the bag and cut open the top with my kitchen shears. My mouth watered as the fresh, metallic scent reached my nostrils, and a small moan squeezed from my lips.
Careful not to spill a drop, I poured the thick red liquid into the glass before tossing the empty bag in the trash. I could have pierced the bag with my teeth, as they had already elongated, ready to feed, but I had the need to do things a more human way. Drinking from the glass made me feel like less of a monster.
As usual, I started off by sipping leisurely, as though it was a fine wine I’d purchased for pleasure, but as the sweet coppery flavor burst over my tongue, my hunger seized control, and the glass was empty less than a second later.
Staring at the thin red film that coated the inside of the glass, I licked my lips. I had the insane idea to use my finger to scrape off every last bit. Not a good sign.
Feeling eyes on me, I turned to find the cat sitting next to his empty bowls, watching me. If I didn’t know better, I’d say he looked curious, maybe even a bit anxious. “Don’t worry, boy. You have nothing to fear from me.” I could have sworn he nodded before he stalked out of the room.
Shaking my head, I rinsed out the glass, breathing a sigh of relief when it was clear of all blood. “Not classy, Kassandra,” I said to myself. I hadn’t been feeding enough, but how could I justify taking another’s source of life? These bags of blood would save a human life. At as little as one a week, that was fifty-two deaths a year I could potentially cause.
It was bad enough the donor center was amidst a shortage. The possibility that my necessary feeding habit would cause issues had guilt eating away at me. But it was better than taking from the source. I’d never do that. Never again.
